Rob and I are expecting! Praise God! We are looking forward to welcoming a second baby Kerr into the world this September. Sadly, our doctors have told us that our child will not live. Even so, we believe that every child is a gift from the Lord (Psalm 127:3). We may not understand why things like this happen, but we choose to Praise him for the good Father that He is even in this season of life. As David in the Bible said, I will bless the Lord at all times no matter what. (Psalm 34:1)
Today, May 15th, is Anencephaly Awareness Day…A day I never thought I would need to know about. I learned about anencephaly in nursing school and remember thinking how sad it must be to have a child with that birth defect. For those of you who have never heard of anencephaly, it occurs when the skull and brain do not form properly. A baby born with anencephaly will not survive. On March 15, 2019, Rob and I got the devastating news that our second child will be born with anencephaly. When you receive that diagnosis, you are given options with how you want to proceed. The first option is to end the pregnancy and the second is to continue the pregnancy for as long as the baby has a heartbeat. For us there was only one option, to continue to carry our child for as long as God allows.
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139: 13-16
We know that Baby Kerr is being created perfectly by God and we want a chance to meet our baby. We are choosing to celebrate Baby Kerr, just as we did Shiloh. We are even hoping to have a gender reveal at some point, so stay tuned! I am currently enjoying every sweet kick and every ultrasound, as we know our time with this baby is short. We are trying to find joy in each day. The joy of the Lord is our strength.
We ask you to join us in prayer. Please pray that no matter the outcome, that God will get glory. Please pray for strength and comfort for our family during this time. Please pray that we will look to God for comfort. Pray that God will use us to comfort others as we are comforted. Please pray that God will turn our mourning into joy (Psalm 30). Lastly, please pray for a miracle for our baby. We know that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than we can think or imagine.
Hike the Good Hike,
